Jeanne Jo Solo in Tulsa

Jeanne Jo's solo show, Coded, just opened in Tulsa at Living Arts.

"Coded is an exhibition by new media artist Jeanne Jo that examines the meta-communicative nature of yarn and needlecraft practices. Inspired by the Jacquard Loom and the history of computing as tied to the art of weaving, Coded transforms preconceptions around stereotypically domestic tasks. Weaving and knitting are incremental systems that function as markers of time. They are systems of intertwining, interdependent loops that build upon themselves like words within languages, both spoken dialects and computer code. Yarn is a line, a connection between two points. When knitted or crocheted, each stitch adds onto the next, changing the one-dimensional line into a three-dimensional object. The linear yarn is transformed."
